AKIRA is a 1988 animated film that is perceived by many as the one that started the Japanese animation invasion in America and is essentially attributed to the surge of anime’s popularity in American culture. AKIRA is considered to be a cult classic, inspiring many sci-fi films that were made in America. We follow our hero Shotaro Kaneda, a wisecracking head of a motorcycle gang, as he teams up with Kei, an agent of a rebellion group to save his friend Tetsuo in a dystopian future Japan whose government is hiding a secret program that could not only destroy Tetsuo but everything else. This was a dream shoot of RenChan's as AKIRA is one of her first beloved anime. These haunting photos were taken during Anime St. Louis 2019 by the ever incredible Mouzycat Cosplay Photographer. Blend-S is the story of Maika Sakuranomiya, high school student and unfortunate bearing of one sadistic looking smile. Maika is discovered one day by a man named Dino who runs a cafe called Stile and could use a unique smile like Maika's for one of his maid roles.... Sadistic! Maika accepts the job and is joined by other girls who fill the other personality types for the maids and they all become great friends while getting into Shenanigans. Ayashi no Ceres, also known as Ceres Celestial legend is a story of 16 year old Aya Mikage who discovers on her birthday that she and her twin brother Aki are the reincarnation of a Celestial Maiden named Ceres and the progenitor of the family known as Mikage.A long time ago Mikage stole the celestial robe or Hagoromo from Ceres therefore keeping her bound to the earth. Because of this Ceres cursed the Mikage family. Aya is now hunted by her own family who seek to destroy Ceres, whom is not awaken within her. Aya teams up with and Yuhi to combat her family and save herself, all the while falling in love with her once hired assassin Toya. Aya must fight along side her friends and other Celestial Maidens to right the wrongs that her family is doing to Celestial maidens and stop her cousin Kagami from his wicked plans. Tanjiro Kamado, a kind-hearted and intelligent boy has become his family's sole source of income after the passing of his father, making trips to the nearby village to sell charcoal. One day his whole life changes when he returns home to discover that his family has been attacked and slaughtered by a demon. Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident, with Nezuko being transformed into a demon, but still surprisingly showing signs of human emotion and thought. After coming across Tanjiro into the Demon Slayer Corps, to also become a demon slayer, and begins his quest to help his sister turn human again and avenge the deaths of his other family members. Ghost in the Shell is a multi dynamic anime which has many adaptations following the protagonist Major Motoko Kusanagi, a just short of full cybernetic agent as she and her partners at Section 9 fight to stop cyber crime in a futuristic Japan where almost everyone is part cybernetic. Ghost in the Shell is one of RenChan's favorite anime it was another dream come true to get to cosplay as her favorite part human part robot badass. Ghost in the Shell (GITS) deals with many mind blowing themes and questions including what it means to be human and have consciousness. Ririchiyo is the daughter of a renowned family who has been living a sheltered life. She is small and well off but has been dependent on others her whole life... now she wants to break free. Only thing is, she has a mouth she can't control and horrendous communication skills. With some help from a friend she moves to Maison de Ayakashi, a secluded high-security apartment complex full of bizarre individuals. All the residents are half-human, half-youkai, including Ririchiyo! Ririchiyo find out that a condition of her new home requires that she be accompanied by a Secret Service agent, Soushi. While he is the quiet type and not bad on the eyes, Soushi is also more than a bit clingy and creepily submissive. With her new partner, new supernatural neighbors, and just starting in high school, Ririchiyo definitely has an interesting future ahead. These phtoos were taken by JMD Photography at NakaKon. One day the Maison receives a new manager, Kyoko Otonashi. Kyoko is a widow who Godai falls head over heels for but with Kyoko's husband recently passing away and the antics of the fellow Maison residents, Godai will have to try extra hard to win the heart of the girl of his dreams. In the final years of the Bakumatsu era, a legendary assassin, Hitokiri Battousai who was feared and seen as merciless and unmatched disappeared mysteriously at the height of the Japanese Revolution. Rurouni Kenshin takes place 10 years since then where the world was peaceful and, but the very mention of the assassin still instill fear in war veterans' hearts. Unknown to the world, the once notorious assassin abandoned his bloody way of life to repent for his sins. He now lives as Kenshin Himura, a nomadic swordsman with an upbeat nature and a strong will. Kenshin vows that he will never kill anyone again that dedicates the rest of his life to protecting those who can not protect themselves. One day, he comes across the beautiful Kaoru Kamiya. Kaoru is threatened by him as he claims to be a Battousai after arriving at her kendo dojo. After Kenshin helps Kaoru she allows him to stay are her dojo and there is where our story begins as he temporarily ceases his travels. These photos were taken at NakaKon 2017. Our group and friends decided to the villains or baddies of the Sailor Moon universe instead of the typical Senshi groups that you see at conventions and it was incredible. Sailor Moon is the story of Usagi Tsukino, a middle-school student who is a bit of a crybaby as she befriends Luna, a talking black cat who gives her a magical brooch enabling her to become Sailor Moon! As Sailor Moon she is destined to save Earth from the forces of evil while finding friends, love, and being of the most beloved magical girls in anime history. Our YomuChan decided to spice things up and put together a Punk Sailor group featuring the outer senshi. These rebel sailor photos were taking in 2021 by Melancholy Maiden Photography. Spirited Away is the tale of young Chihiro and her parents who on the way to their new home come across a realm that hosts spirits. Chihiro's parents are trapped there unexpectedly and Chihiro must enlist herself until the employ of Yubaba and work for the bathhouse to free them and herself. This is a favorite Studio Ghibli film of YomuChan and it was so much fun to bring that Miyazaki magic to live. These photos were taken at Gordon Moore Park by Melancholy Maiden Photography. Tenchi Muyo! is the original anime series based around Tenchi Masaki, a hapless school boy who suddenly finds himself in surrounded by a group of women from outer space. The anime follows Tenchi's adventures with space pirate Ryoko, Princess Ayeka and her little sister Sasami, scientific genius of the world Washu, the ditsy space police officer Mihoshi as all the girls fight over Tenchi's affection, while he fights off galactic threats and discovers that his family is also connected to the outer space world these women hail from. This is one of the original harem anime and is a classic favorite of CKC. These amazing photos were taken during Anime St. Louis 2017 by our wonderful friend Thomas Ricks. The famous "Seven Wonders" that every school seems to have are a staple of Japanese urban legends. One of the most well-known of these tales is that of Hanako-san: the ghost of a young girl who haunts the school's bathrooms. At Kamome Academy love sick Nene Yashiro is hoping to summon one of the famous Seven Wonders of the school said to be the ghost of a young girl who haunts the girls bathroom. Nene sets off, hoping the rumors are true and despite the fact that all those who have tired to summon the ghost before her have failed. Nene is surprised to find that not only has she successfully been able to summon the ghost known as Hanako, but this "girl" ghost is actually a boy! After Nene's romantic ambitious to catch her love interest's eye she is unwillingly entangled in the world of the supernatural, becoming Hanako-kun's assistant. She find out soon after that Hanako-kun's lesser-known duty is maintaining the delicate balance between mortals and apparitions. Escaflowne is about an average teenage high school girl named Hitomi, who finds herself mysteriously transported to the planet Gaea when a boy named Van Fanel appears on her track at school while battling a dragon. In Gaea, she is caught in the middle of a war along with Van as the Zaibach Empire, with help from Van's brother Folken, attempts to take over Gaea. Hitomi along with Van, whom we find out is the King of Fanelia, Allen (an Asturian Knight), and Millerna (Princess of Asturia) must band together to stop the Zaibach Empire. It is revealed that with Hitomi's newly developed fortune telling powers, they are finally able to awaken the mysterious mech Escaflowne, under Van's control and to stop Zaibach's plans. These fantastic photos were taken during Anime St. Louis 2018 by our wonderful friend Thomas Ricks. This was another passion project of LaKinta and RenChan along with our friends who came together to bring this old school anime to life. Yu Yu Hakusho is about Yusuke Urameshi, a 14-year-old street-brawling delinquent who is hit by a car and killed in an attempt to save a young boy by pushing him out of the way, which is completely out of character for him. Yusuke's ghost is greeted by Botan, a woman who introduces herself as what we would refer to as the "grim reaper" of sorts. Botan informs Yusuke that his act had caught even the Underworld by surprise and that there was not yet a place made for him in either heaven or hell so the son of the Underworld, Koenma offers Yusuke a chance to return to his body through a series of tests. It is after this that Yusuke teams up with friends Keiko and Kuwabara, along with some newly made demon friends, Hiei and Kurama to monitor and protect the human world from thedemons and other spirits that seek to cause trouble. Zombieland Saga is the fun tale of high school girl Sakura Minamoto who after being suddenly killed by a truck while heading to an audition, 10 years later is brought back as a Zombie! Sakura, along with six "legendary" idol girls from various eras of Japan's history are assembled in to an all-zombie idol group known as Franchouchou by a named Kotaro Tatsumi, who seeks to revitalize Saga Prefecture.
